I mean, one of the most impressive parts of a person’s physique is the midsection. Nothing else really shows fitness, and aesthetic beauty. From Greek sculptures, to the models today, having impressive, visible abdominal muscles shows health and desirability. It’s not by accident, since belly fat is directly related to risk of cardiac disease, and diabetes and other health conditions - being lean shows that you take care of yourself.
Getting a six pack takes a systemic approach - doing a few ab curls in an ab roller every other day will not give you the best ab workout. The best ab workout needs to be intensive - it needn't take hours, but it does need to target those abdominal muscles in the best possible way.
Abdominal muscles are much like any other muscles - they need to be worked hard, and be given time to rest. The best way to get abs would be to target the upper abdominal muscles, lower abdominal muscles and the oblique. Many exercise programs don't include lower ab workouts, and these really need to be worked on just as hard as the rest of the muscles for that complete physique. Doing hundreds of abdominal crunches is not really the best ab toner as it's not likely to build your abdominals, just like doing hundreds of bicep curls isn't going to give you massive biceps. You need to have the best ab workout if you are going to target the right muscles - working smart and intensively is the key to getting a six pack.
However hard you work on your abdominal muscles, they simply will not show up if you have a large amount of body fat. The average person has around 18-22% of body fat, and you will start to see shadows of abdominals at about 14-15% of bodyfat, really start to get visible abdominals below 12% bodyfat, and appear 'shredded' at under 10% bodyfat. Many of us underestimate their body fat - and it is this that most people need to work upon. The best way to lose the stomach fat is to manage your diet and also to work on cardio exercises that burn excess calories. Of course, if you are strict enough on diet, you can get away with doing little cardiovascular exercise, but not many people can be extremely motivated enough to maintain this for a long period of time. Certainly something we should all do is to cut out fattening foods. Foods that contain empty calories such as sweets, beer, fizzy drinks should be kept to a minimum. It is not necessary to do hours and hours of cardio to lose body fat, it is just as efficient to do short, sharp intensive sessions, or even to lift weights intensively to burn fat. Any exercise that gets you breathless and uncomfortable for a time can be used just as well.
Getting a six pack can be difficult, but it can be possible in a few short weeks with just the right motivation, the right diet, and the best ab workout.
